In most states, IRAs are counted like any other assets. But that differs somewhat from state to state, so you’ll have to check with your local Medicaid agency or a local elder law attorney to be certain.
If the IRAs are countable, your IRA will be countable as well. However, it might not matter. While your husband is limited to $2,000 in countable assets, you can keep as much as much as $137,400 (in 2022).
One more thing you need to know about IRA. Your husband can transfer assets to you to get under the $2,000 threshold. Unfortunately, he would have to liquidate his IRA before transferring. When he does that, it will all be taxable.
